Budget digital compact from 2004 with that classic early-digital CCD look.

Key specs:

  • 3.2MP CCD sensor
  • 3x optical zoom (38-114mm equivalent)
  • 1.8-inch LCD screen
  • xD-Picture Card storage (512MB Included)
  • Runs on 2x AA batteries

The C-310 Zoom (also sold as the D-540 Zoom) is a simple, easy-to-use point-and-shoot from Olympus' popular budget line. That 3MP CCD sensor delivers the warm, soft rendering that's become sought after for the authentic mid-2000s digicam aesthetic - low resolution, but that's exactly the appeal.

Runs on AA batteries, so there's no proprietary cell to worry about.

Battery note: We strongly recommend using lithium AA batteries or quality rechargeables with this camera. Digital cameras can drain standard alkaline batteries quickly, and lithium/rechargeable cells provide much better performance and reliability.

A budget-friendly pick for anyone chasing that nostalgic early digital vibe.

About the brand

Olympus

Olympus was a Japanese optics and camera company founded in 1919, well known for its compact film and digital cameras and its Micro Four Thirds mirrorless OM-D and PEN series. In 2021 Olympus sold its camera and audio business to investment fund JIP, which continues the range under the OM System brand, while Olympus itself now focuses on medical and scientific equipment.
