Terms of service
These terms apply when you buy from camerahousenz.com or use the services we offer through this site. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Camera House, 77 Queens Drive, Lower Hutt, Wellington. By placing an order you accept these terms.
Your rights under New Zealand law
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. If you buy from us as a consumer, those guarantees apply regardless of anything written here.
If you are buying for the purposes of a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, and our liability is limited to replacing the goods or refunding what you paid.
Prices and payment
All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Payment is taken at the time you order. We accept the payment methods shown at checkout.
We try hard to keep prices and product information accurate, but mistakes happen. If we discover an error in the price or description of something you have ordered, we will contact you before dispatch and you can either confirm the order at the corrected price or cancel it for a full refund.
Stock and availability
Much of our stock is second-hand, and many items are one-offs. We sell the same stock in the shop and online, so occasionally something sells in person at the same moment it sells online. If we cannot supply what you have ordered, we will tell you promptly and refund you in full.
Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we accept your order, and we may decline an order — for example if the item is no longer available or the price was listed incorrectly.
Second-hand equipment
Second-hand cameras, lenses and accessories are sold in the condition described on the product page. We test what we sell and describe faults we know about, but older equipment is mechanical and can develop faults. Your Consumer Guarantees Act rights still apply, taking into account the age and price of the item.
Film developing, printing and scanning
We handle your film with care, and we develop the great majority of orders without incident. Even so, film processing carries risks nobody can remove: film can be fogged, damaged in the camera, incorrectly exposed, or affected by age or heat before it reaches us, and in rare cases film can be damaged during processing.
Where a fault is ours, our responsibility is limited to replacing the film and redoing the work. We cannot replace the pictures themselves, so please think carefully before sending us irreplaceable film — talk to us first and we will tell you honestly what the risks are.
Please tell us at drop-off if your film is unusual, expired, cross-processed, or was shot at a different speed to the box rating, so we can handle it correctly.
Uncollected work: we hold finished orders for three months. After that we may dispose of them, though we will try to reach you first.
Buying film
Film is a consumable and is sensitive to heat, humidity, light and X-rays once it leaves the shop. For that reason we do not accept returns or exchanges on film that has been sold, unless it is faulty or damaged — see our Refund Policy for the full terms and for how to raise a problem with a faulty film.
Custom framing and other made-to-order work
Custom framing is made to your specification and cannot be resold, so once work has begun these orders cannot be cancelled or refunded unless the work is faulty. We will confirm the details with you before starting.
Passport and visa photos
We take passport and visa photos to the published requirements of the relevant authority at the time. Requirements change and are ultimately decided by the issuing authority, so we cannot guarantee any application will be accepted.
If a photo we supplied is rejected because of something we got wrong, bring the rejection notice back to us and we will retake and reissue it at no charge.
Digital photos are supplied as a file by email, and the UK ePassport service is supplied as a code. Because these are delivered immediately and cannot be returned, they are not refundable once sent — except where they are faulty.
Darkroom hire
Darkroom sessions are booked for a set time. Please let us know as early as you can if you need to change or cancel a booking. Use the equipment as directed by our staff, and tell us about any damage or fault so we can fix it for the next person.
Returns
Our returns terms are set out in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Your account and this website
If you create an account, keep your login details secure — you are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it.
Everything on this site, including our photographs, product images and written descriptions, belongs to us or is used with permission, and may not be copied for commercial use without our agreement.
We may change this site, our product range or these terms at any time. The version of these terms published when you place your order is the version that applies to it.
Privacy
We handle personal information in line with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
