Team Camera House

At Camera House, we've built something a little special over the years — a team with an almost absurd range of expertise, from photo restoration and camera repairs to black & white darkroom chemistry and enough collective camera knowledge to make most manufacturers nervous. Between us, there's not much we haven't fixed, processed, or debated over a cuppa.

Sam and Brendan have been part of the Camera House family for nearly 20 years, and they remain the beating heart of everything we do.

Then there's Andrew — a cinematographer and photographer whose work is genuinely in a league of its own. Over the past seven years he's been a key part of our crew, and when he hasn't been with us, it's because he's been off shooting in some far-flung corner of the world. His eye for a frame is something else entirely.

Holding it all together in the meantime has been Sol. He's been with us for a few years now, and honestly, he's the glue that keeps this place running smoothly — endlessly knowledgeable, and almost certainly the friendliest person you'll ever meet behind a camera counter.

And then there's Remy — our newest addition and quite possibly our most enthusiastic. He arrives every day buzzing with fresh ideas, big plans, and an excitement about photography that's genuinely infectious. The world of photography hasn't seen the last of him, and we can't wait to watch where it takes him.

I plug myself in at night and enjoy bathing in grease and CRC it helps my gear... I MEAN MY JOINTS.

🟡 What’s the one camera you never leave the house without?

Oh that's a great question. I don't know.. how can you choose when theyre all favourites, Probably my PC 55 I like that camera and its always in my bag.

🟡 Which camera would you dive into lava to save?

Probably my Nikon F3, my other one is in like 600 parts.

🟡 Strangest place you’ve ever loaded a roll of film?

On a MIG-21 at an abandoned Soviet Airbase on the outskirts of Warsaw.

🟡 What film do you have in your camera right now?

Expired Ektachrome 64T or TMAX 100 or some Velvia, it depends.

🟡 Do you plan your shots or shoot from the hip and hope for the best?

No plan survives first contact with the enemy, who said that? uhhh I think it was Macarthur anyway my enemy is good photos. They alays seem better in my head but usually grow on me several months later.

🟡 How’s your film stash looking right now? Hoarder-level or survival rations?

Hoarder! I think I've got 40 rolls of Velvia, I have more slide film in my fridge than I will ever shoot andI also I barely use any of it.

🟡 Are you a camera hoarder or a camera slut?

I don't know I like to keep my collectio pretty slim, I have like 4 cameras, that's nothing though, for a film person at least, it seems like everyone else has like 30 of the things.

🟡 What camera are you low-key embarrassed to love?

Oh let me look around, that little tiny Minox 35, it was a copy of some other small 35mm camera, it was a piece of rubbish but was kinda endearing.

[CENSORED] was an inside job. Actually I don't know if I want to put that on the internet

Remy

Brendan

What’s the one camera you never leave the house without?

I normally have a Mju or Canon sure shot A1 in the glove box.

🟡 Which camera would you dive into lava to save?

Pentax 6x7 with 105 and grip, of course.

🟡 Strangest place you’ve ever loaded a roll of film?

Good question, but I don’t think I’ve loaded a camera somewhere that odd. A boat? A car? A plane? Nothing too wild.

🟡 What film do you have in your camera right now?

Lost track. I’ve always got a roll of Kodak BW400CN in at least one camera.

🟡 Do you plan your shots or shoot from the hip and hope for the best?

I wish I could plan, but it's just not in my nature.

🟡 How’s your film stash looking right now? Hoarder-level or survival rations?

Total film hoarder. I can’t bring myself to shoot that last roll of Superia 1600.

🟡 Are you a camera hoarder or a camera slut?

Major camera hoarder.

🟡 What camera are you low-key embarrassed to love?

Braun Paxette — first camera I learned to shoot with, no light meter. Was mostly Sunny 16, and somehow every shot came out perfectly exposed.

Probably my Mamiya RB67, it feels like my own child.

🟡 Strangest place you’ve ever loaded a roll of film?

An abandoned hospital in the middle of the night.

🟡 What film do you have in your camera right now?

There's always expired Fuji 220 film in my RB.

I see everything in my head before I take it (but it's never as cool as I imagine it)

🟡 How’s your film stash looking right now? Hoarder-level or survival rations?

Big hoarder, I've taken the entire vegetable drawer in the fridge.

Everything has a unique use and purpose... Definitely not a hoarder...

🟡 What camera are you low-key embarrassed to love?

My receipt printer camera (shaped like a bunny) has been the most fun I've had with a camera in a long time.

Sam

🟡 What’s the one camera you never leave the house without?

I always leave the house without a camera. (Dash cam.)

🟡 Which camera would you dive into lava to save?

Fuji ST901 — biggest viewfinder Fuji made, and it’s got LEDs. It’s amazing.

🟡 Strangest place you’ve ever loaded a roll of film?

Pumpkin patch.

🟡 What film do you have in your camera right now?

I always have something loaded... but I never know what it is.

🟡 Do you plan your shots or shoot from the hip and hope for the best?

I plan every MacKay House photo.

🟡 How’s your film stash looking right now? Hoarder-level or survival rations?

Survival ration.

They just don’t make any films I like anymore.

The original Superia — that fourth colour layer really made a difference.

Agfa Vista was nice. Can’t get that anymore.

🟡 Are you a camera hoarder or a camera slut?

More of a collection than a hoard. There’s a theme to it.

🟡 What camera are you low-key embarrassed to love?

I’m not embarrassed by any that I like. It’s just everyone else is an idiot for not liking them.
