Yashica-Mat (Early 1957, Lumaxar Lens)

Early-production Japanese TLR shooting 6x6 medium format - a desirable first-year example with the uncommon Lumaxar lens.

Key specs:

  • 6x6cm medium format on 120 film
  • Lumaxar 80mm f/3.5 taking lens (4-element Tessar-type)
  • 80mm f/3.2 View-Lumaxar viewing lens
  • Twin-lens reflex design
  • Copal MXV leaf shutter (B, 1–1/500s)
  • Crank film advance
  • Waist-level viewfinder
  • Fully mechanical, no meter (no battery needed)

Condition: Some dust in the viewing (top) lens. Worth stressing this is only the viewing lens used for composing - it has zero effect on your actual photos, which are taken through the separate lower taking lens. At most it slightly affects viewfinder brightness; image quality is unaffected.

Warranty: 2 Months from purchase

All second-hand film cameras sold at Camera House NZ come with a 2 month warranty when they've been film tested by us.

Our 2 month warranty covers mechanical and electronic failures that occur during normal use. If something goes wrong with your camera during this period, bring it back and we'll sort it out.

This warranty reflects our confidence in the cameras we sell and our commitment to getting you out shooting with reliable equipment. We've been in the photography business since 1953, and we stand behind the gear we sell.

Guarantee: Film Tested

We put a roll of film through each camera to verify that the shutter, film advance, and light meter (where fitted) are working correctly. This real-world testing ensures you're getting a camera that's ready to shoot, not just one that looks good on the shelf.

About the brand

Yashica

Yashica is a Japanese camera brand founded in 1949, historically known for its rangefinder and SLR film cameras and its long partnership producing Contax branded cameras with Carl Zeiss. Camera production wound down through the 1980s and 2000s, and the Yashica name is now owned and revived by a Hong Kong based company producing new film and digital cameras that draw on its classic heritage.
