The legendary early 8-element Super-Takumar - the rare, sought-after first version and one of the most revered standard primes ever made.

    Key specs:

    • 50mm focal length, f/1.4 maximum aperture
    • 8 elements in 6 groups (including a cemented triplet)
    • M42 screw mount
    • Single-coated
    • Manual focus, auto/manual aperture switch

Version: We're confident this is the desirable 8-element version, based on the three key identifiers: a blank aperture switch (no "37800" model number, which only the 8-element omits), a measured weight of 243g (the 8-element is heavier than the ~230g 7-element), and a serial number in the correct range. We've done our homework on this one - but if you receive it and determine it isn't the 8-element, we'll happily accept a return, no fuss.

Condition: Glass is good. The aperture is a little slow/sluggish - very common on these, almost always just old oil on the blades. It can be used in manual mode as-is, or freshened up with a CLA to bring the blades back to snappy.

    Warranty: 2 Months from purchase

All second-hand film cameras sold at Camera House NZ come with a 2 month warranty when they've been film tested by us.

Our 2 month warranty covers mechanical and electronic failures that occur during normal use. If something goes wrong with your camera during this period, bring it back and we'll sort it out.

This warranty reflects our confidence in the cameras we sell and our commitment to getting you out shooting with reliable equipment. We've been in the photography business since 1953, and we stand behind the gear we sell.

    Guarantee: Film Tested

We put a roll of film through each camera to verify that the shutter, film advance, and light meter (where fitted) are working correctly. This real-world testing ensures you're getting a camera that's ready to shoot, not just one that looks good on the shelf.

In the digital era, Pentax focuses on what matters: weather-sealed bodies, in-body stabilization, excellent build quality, and reasonable prices. While others chase trends, Pentax makes cameras photographers actually want to use - not flashy, just brilliant at the fundamentals.
