Nikon’s waterproof compact, sold as the Action Touch in the States, and a genuinely desirable camera. Under the chunky sealed shell is the same sharp 35mm f/2.8 lens as the much-loved L35AF, rated for use down to 3m. Autofocus or zone focus, built-in flash, and it runs on AAs. Built like a brick and happy in rain, surf and sand.

A note on the waterproofing: the seals on this one look to be in good condition, but it’s a forty-year-old camera and we can’t test it to depth. Water damage isn’t covered under warranty. If you plan to take it swimming or diving, get the seals professionally checked and pressure-tested first.
