The camera that started the Rebel line. Canon launched the EOS 1000 in 1990 as their first genuinely affordable EOS, and rather than crippling it they gave it the lot — manual, aperture and shutter priority, exposure compensation, ISO override, the scene modes. It's plastic and it's light, but it's an EF body, which is the whole point: put any EF lens on the front, from a cheap fifty to whatever's already in your DSLR bag, and it works. Loading is clever too — it winds the whole roll out and then draws it back into the cassette as you shoot, so if the back pops open you lose the frames you haven't taken rather than the ones you have. There's also a self-timer that plays a little tune instead of beeping, which is either charming or not, depending on you.
